The gradual revelation of the Holy Qur’an, which reflects God’s continuous guidance and support for the community of believers, faced objections from skeptics from the very beginning of revelation. By comparing the Qur’anic revelation with some earlier scriptures, they demanded that the Qur’an be revealed all at once and regarded its gradual descent as a sign of disorder. Over time, this objection reappeared in the form of claims about the thematic dispersion of verses, lack of semantic coherence, and the absence of a unified context within Qur’anic surahs. This claim eventually led to a doubt that may be described as the Qur’an being a “scattered collection.”The present study, employing a descriptive analytical approach and relying on library research, argues that the origin of this doubt lies in neglecting the purpose of the surah as the axis of verse coherence. Accordingly, Surah Ash Shuʿarāʾ is examined as a case study, and its seemingly diverse narratives are analyzed in light of its overarching purpose. The findings indicate that despite the diversity of prophetic accounts, the surah shows strong internal coherence, as its central purpose—explaining the reality of divine mission and the ongoing struggle between truth and falsehood—connects all of its narratives.
